Abstract

Can individual cells retain a memory of past gene expression levels even after the stimulus has faded? In this issue of Cell Genomics, Domitilla Del Vecchio and colleagues describe an analog epigenetic memory system in which DNA methylation acts as a signal that locks in gene expression levels over time and cell divisions.<sup>1</sup>.
